Professor Olaf H. Drummer

Professor Olaf H. Drummer, FFSC, FRCPA, CChem, PhD (Med), BAppSc(Chem) is a forensic pharmacologist and toxicologist. He is Deputy Director (Academic Programs) at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine and Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia. Professor Drummer completed his PhD from Melbourne University in 1980, and has been involved in the analysis of drugs and poisons, and the interpretation of their biological effects, for almost 40 years. He has published extensively in the fields of forensic pharmacology and toxicology, including in over 200 peer reviewed scientific papers in journals and in textbooks. He is a past President of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists and is the inaugural President of the Forensic and Clinical Toxicology Association of Australia and New Zealand. He is also a member of a number of national and international associations.

His current research interest is in:

- involvement of alcohol and other drugs in road and workplace accidents,
- illicit drugs and their behavioural effects with a focus on synthetic cannabinoids and stimulants,
- new and evolving analytical techniques for drug detection in biological specimens.

Professor Jeffrey Lipman

Professor Lipman is a career Intensivist, having worked full-time in Intensive Care Units since 1979. He is currently the Director of Intensive Care Services at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland. His research interests include all aspects of infection management in intensive care. He has a special interest in the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics, an area in which he completed his MD through the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

He has published over 30 book chapters and over 300 peer-reviewed articles including in high impact journals like NEJM, JAMA and Lancet Infectious Diseases. He has supervised over a dozen PhDs, is Section Editor of a number of peer-reviewed journals and reviews for many more

Dr Mario Plebani

Dr. Plebani obtained his medical degree summa cum laude from the Medical School of the University of Padova in 1975. He completed residency training and specialization in Laboratory Medicine (1978), and subsequently in Gastroenterology (1983), at the same University. He is full Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology at the School of Medicine, University of Padova, as well as Chief of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University Hospital of Padova and Chief of the Center of Biomedical Research. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Management of the University of Padova, having covered the positions of Director of the Post-graduate School in Clinical Biochemistry at the Medical School from 2006 to 2012, and President of the Course for Medical Technologists from 2008 to 2012. He is also Honorary Professor at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina); a member of the Study Group on Biomarkers in Cardiology of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Working Group on Acute Cardiac Care and, a member of the TC - Study group on Biomarkers of the Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACCA).

Dr. Plebani is Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, co-Editor in Chief of Diagnosis, and Associate editor of the International Journal of Biological Markers. He is the Chairman of the IFCC Working group on “Laboratory errors and patient safety” (WG LEPS).

His main areas of research are quality in laboratory medicine, diagnostic and laboratory errors, biomarkers in cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and in vitro allergy diagnostics.

Professor Hans Schneider

Prof Hans Schneider is Director of Pathology at Alfred Hospital.

Associate Professor Sunil Sethi

Associate Professor Sunil Sethi is a Senior Consultant Chemical Pathologist, and the Head of Clinical Chemistry, Department of Laboratory Medicine at the National University Hospital, Singapore and Associate Professor of Pathology at the National University of Singapore. After his basic medical degree, Dr Sethi obtained his specialist qualifications in Internal Medicine and Chemical Pathology from the Royal Colleges of Medicine (MRCP) and Pathologists (FRCPath), UK and a PhD in the area of lipid metabolism, from the University of Surrey, UK. He is the President of the Singapore Association of Clinical Biochemists (SACB) as well as the President and Executive Board Member of the Asian and Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB). Dr Sethi sits on numerous local, regional and international committees and advisory boards. In addition to his administrative and laboratory practice, Dr Sethi is still active in direct patient care and conducts a regular lipid clinic in the hospital. His research interests include streamlining and improving laboratory processes, the use of informatics and support applications for laboratory and clinical purposes
