The SA&NT Branch QC Subcommittee meets on the 1st Friday of each month at the RCPA-QAP Chemical Pathology office in Adelaide. Membership is made up of representation from the major pathology providers in South Australia (SA Pathology, Gribbles, Clinpath) - along with the RCPA-QAP office - and has a long history of interlab and interstate co-operation and communication.
Recent projects have included a progesterone method comparison (published in The Clinical Biochemist Newsletter June 2009) and a study comparing benchtop stability of a number of PTH in renal patients compared with a control group; results of this study will be published shortly.
Currently a monthly interlaboratory comparison for Beta Crosslaps is being developed. After initial assessment of results it has changed from a monthly sample comparison to a more 'QAP-like' survey with samples repeated at different intervals throughout the year. All labs performing Crosslaps in South Australia are participating and results will be published on the website as they become available.
As well as these projects, the QC Subcommittee provides a forum for discussion of problem tests/analytes and for the exchange of information on QAP performance, KPIs, etc.
