Labs Are Vital
Labs are Vital™ is an exciting new initiative, launched at the 2008 Annual Scientific Conference of the AACB in Adelaide on September 15th.
It is a multi-pronged, multi-year education and awareness initiative designed to highlight the critical role that laboratory professionals play in health care and to address the issues facing laboratories today.
Every day, laboratory professionals provide critical information that saves lives, supports health initiatives to improve population health and helps control the costs of care in our health system. It is estimated that 60 – 70 per cent of health care decisions are influenced by laboratory run tests.
Labs are Vital™ will provide a unique platform for professional associations, such as the AACB, to work together to:
· Highlight the value of the laboratory professional, both within the healthcare system and to the general public
· Address the issues that laboratories face today, from workforce changes to reimbursement strategies and laboratory utilisation
· Serve as a community for laboratory professionals to exchange ideas and suggestions, working as a catalyst for positive change
· Promote careers in laboratory science among students in Australia.
Launched in the United States by Abbott in 2006, Labs are Vital™ is successfully promoting the valuable work of laboratory scientists in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy and now in Australia.
