Updated eGFR guidelines released
The Australasian Creatinine Consensus, representing the RCPA, AACB and Kidney Health Australia has just released updated guidelines for eGFR calculation and reporting (Medical Journal of Australia, 2007; 187 (8):459-463, published 15th October; also available free online at http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/187_08_151007/mat10525_fm.html). The guideline recommends the use of a revised MDRD formula for creatinine assays aligned with the international reference method; the reporting of numerical values up to 90 mL/min/1.73m2 for laboratories using aligned creatinine assays; the use of standardised reference intervals; and offers further clarification on the use of the eGFR in the elderly, in different racial groups and for drug dosing decisions.
